Houston Celebrates Italia

On Sunday, June 3rd, the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce of Texas Inc. (IACC) hosted La Dolce Vita, its 2nd Annual Robert Mondavi Polo Cup & Risotto Stir-Up, sponsored by Ferrari, Dolce & Gabbana, Italbiz and the Houston Polo Club, among many other distinguished Italian partners.

The purpose of this annual event was to showcase the quality Italian products that can be found in Houston’s own backyard, and to raise money to provide graduate students with an opportunity to intern in Italy. The IACC is a non-profit organization that supports Italian-related business in Texas, focusing especially on trade between Italy, the United States and other nations with a particular focus on the Gulf of Mexico area. As part of its commitment to continuously offer new services, the Chamber recently partnered with Italbiz, a sponsor of the event, to provide local Italian-related companies e-business solutions, including Web site design and hosting, an international B2B directory, trade postings and Italian-related news and information.

The Polo Cup attracted more than 300 guests and Chamber members who came out to enjoy the remarkable display of Italian automobiles and motorbikes from Ferrari of Houston and Vespa of Texas, respectively. A silent auction took place for guests to bid on items such as Italian-made motorbikes, artwork, clothing from Dolce & Gabbana and a first class round-trip to Italy.

Halftime at the polo field treated guests to the “Parade of Ferrari,” a celebration of the most beautiful car in the world, coupled with a fashion show by Dolce & Gabbana. The attire for the day was Fellini Chic, and Ferrari owners were encouraged to drive their cars to the match to display their taste in fine Italian design.

Following the polo match, several of Houston’s finest restaurants and amateur chefs prepared dishes for the Risotto Stir-Up. Chefs from Achilles, Art Institute of Houston, Academia della Cucina Italiana and the IACC entered the culinary competition to give guests a taste of the finest Italian cuisine.

To top off the event, Italbiz, the leading provider of e-business resources and solutions for the Italian marketplace, offered a “Web Site Giveaway.” The lucky winner, Vespa of Texas, will receive a complimentary Web site from Italbiz that will enhance their online service offering. They will also be added to the Italbiz global B2B directory with more than 100,000 company listings to help expand the possibilities for international partnerships. Italbiz has partnered with the IACC of Texas, as well as Italian Chambers of Commerce worldwide to help Italian-oriented companies increase their global impact by strengthening their online services and providing e-business resources for the new economy.

This year’s Robert Mondavi Polo Cup & Risotto Stir-Up was a grand success and generated tremendous public awareness of the many Italian businesses in the Houston area while raising a significant amount of money for local graduate students who wish to study in Italy. Thanks to all the businesses and individuals who gave their time and generosity to help make this year’s event such a memorable one.
